Recommendations for family outings
Collbató is a wonderful destination to spend the day with children and as a family: the Saltpetre Cave, pathways of low or moderate difficulty, activities to discover the mediaeval old town and a whole range of family-friendly restaurants, as well as the Esplai de la Salut picnic area.
If you want to visit the Montserrat Caves, the ideal starting point is the Picnic Area car park (where there are toilets and a bar service).
If you feel like walking, you can leave the car right there and take the narrow track which will lead you to the second car park, at the foot of the steps leading up to the Cave (remember that there are 244 of them!). Allow around 20-25 minutes for the climb.
If you feel that the entrance steps and the interior are too far to walk, you can drive your car up to the second car park, but bear in mind that on Sundays it could be full, so arrive early!
One of the wonderful guides will be waiting for you at the entrance to the Cave to begin the guided tour (with another 500 steps waiting for you inside!).
